Lily Sanderson has a secret, and it’s not that she has a huge crush on gorgeous swimming god Brody Bennett, who makes her heart beat flipper-fast. Lily’s mermaid identity is a secret that can’t get out, since she’s not just any mermaid – she’s a Thalassinian princess. THE RUN-DOWN Lily is a mermaid (a Thalassinian princess to be more specific) but is currently living on land with her Aunt. Besides the whole Thalassinian princess thing, Lily's life is pretty normal. She goes to high-school, has a best friend, a nemesis, and a crush. The problem is, mermaids don't get crushes. Mermaids bond for life.
MY ThoughtsThis was a really cute and quick read.
Was it girly? yes. But it was really adorable.
Quince, the "nemesis", is actually really sweet and was probably one of my favorite things about this book. This brings us to the major thing that I did not like about this book: Lily.
Don't get me wrong, there is nothing really wrong about Lily, but she is kind of...blind. I say blind because Quince obviously has a crush on her but she is completely oblivious! Then there's the fact that she has a "crush" on someone that she barely knows and is actually a jerk.
There were many times where I wanted to knock some sense into Lily.
The only other thing that bugged me about this book was the ending.
There's a very short epilogue that doesn't really have much to do with the book, there isn't even any hints towards it happening. The whole point of the epilogue was to tie the book into the next book.
But, to be honest, if it wasn't for the epilogue this would have been a really nice stand-alone. That might've been the whole point, but I kind of like the idea of this being a stand-alone...
